WUST Convocation 2022 held in Virginia, USA

Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST) convocation 2022 held on Saturday (June 18) at George C. Marshall High School auditorium in Virginia, USA. More than 500 students of this university in Virginia, USA were awarded their graduation certificates on this day.

Wearing a graduation black gown and black cap with tassel, the students became the main attraction of the ceremony, taking their certificates, filling the day with joy and excitement. The chief guest was Jeffrey C. McCay, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of The Fairfax County, Virginia.

Instead of limiting the program to the distribution of certificates, the university authorities organized a special seminar. Dr. Ryan Saadi, a Bangladeshi-American medical researcher gave an instructional address to students as a keynote speaker. Discovering the successful treatment of cancer is one of his major successes in medical research.


In his speech Dr Rayan Saadi narrated the success story of his life to the students and encouraged them to lead the way forward in the future.

The chancellor of the university, Engineer Abubokor Hanip, president Dr. Hasan Karaburk, distributed certificates to the students as well as highlighted the future course of action of the university in their speeches.

Guests of the event included few other Bangladeshi-Americans who are highly placed in their respective fields the United States. All of them gave directional speeches to the students in this graduation-convocation.

Among them was Senator Sheikh Rahman, a successful Bangladeshi-American Democrat in mainstream U.S. politics, M. Osman Siddique, a successful diplomat and the first Muslim Bangladeshi-American ambassador of the United States, Dr. Saifur Rahman, a successful figure in education and research and present President of IEEE, Dr. Golam M. Mathbor, professor at Monmouth University and Co-Chair and Commissioner of the Global Social Work Education Commission, Aziz Ahmad, a successful innovator and entrepreneur of information technology, Chairman and CEO of UTC Associates, CodersTrust, and Probity Care, Siddique Sheikh, a member of the WUST advisory council, and Farhana Hanip, Chief Financial Officer of WUST spoke on the occasion.


University’s vice-presidents, Dr. Zafer Pirim and Dr. Shan Cho along with other faculty members took part in the convocation.

Dr. Mark L. Robinson, Director of the University's School of Business, served as the Master of the Ceremony while it was hosted by Dr. Aniva Zaman, Senior Producer and Correspondent, WPLG, ABC-10.

The chief guest of the event is Jeffrey C. McKay said that multi-ethnic union is one of America's strengths. The Washington University of Science and Technology is an example of the policy pursued by the United States of America to establish an inclusive, equitable society. Its students are coming to this country from different countries of the world and taking their higher education, especially the education of information technology, which is most needed for this time, he said in the speech. Jeffrey said that there are 9,000 technology companies in Virginia, that these students will be able to finish their studies and join these companies as skilled manpower, it really deserves to be appreciated.


Keynote Speaker Dr. Ryan Saadi begins with the story of his personal life and tells the students that every cherished dream comes true. He talked about using every moment of life with utmost importance and called upon everyone to be strong in the power of humanity. Noting that there is immense potential among the students. He asked every student to be self-confident and to have a pure mind.

What is most needed is to know yourself, if everyone gets to know him or herself, if s/he knows her or his skills and abilities, then anything can be achieved by self-dedication and compassion, said Dr. Ryan Saadi.

Engr. Abubokor Hanip, an Educationist, IT Faculty and a serial Entrepreneur and the Chancellor of Washington University of Science and Technology delivered a guiding address to the students.


“Your experience is powerful. You know that nothing is promised and there is always uncertainty. And you know you have the strength and determination to go on to succeed. Therefore, there is much added joy for us all in celebrating your success today,” said Abubokor Hanip.

“Your university education has built a solid foundation for you to succeed. You now have the potential to achieve what is necessary to meet the challenges of the future,” he added.

Dr. Hasan Karaburk said that the most important thing is the experience that students get from a university along with education. There is no alternative to experience. Addressing the students, he said, "You will share the education and experience you have gained from this university with others. Which will make them energetic to take similar initiatives.

During this time, the students were officially declared as graduate degree holders by Dr. Hasan Karaburk.

Senator Sheikh Rahman greeted the graduates of the Washington University of Science and Technology and the authorities through a video message for not being able to attend in person.

M. Osman Siddique gives the students the impetus to be determined and courageous. And he said, in the course of life, do what is cherished in your heart.

Dr. Saifur Rahman said that just as it is important what the country can do for you, it is also important what you can do for the country. You have to make sure that you can help someone before you expect help.

Washington University of Science and Technology, which is working to create a productive workforce suitable for the 21st century, where students can begin their journey by making their place in this future workforce, which is definitely worthy of praise, said Professor Dr. Golam M. Mathbor. He emphasized on ethics and values along with ability towards the students. And he said that with the combination of all these things, it is possible to reach the desired goal.

This university has opened the way for you to achieve a successful future. It may be a matter of pride for you to be graduated as your current student at one of the best universities of the future, said Siddique Sheikh. He urged the students to be focused, honest and courteous.

Aziz Ahmad said that every student who has completed his or her graduation from a university based on IT skills is lucky. The skills acquired through this education will make every student fit for the working field of the present world. And the more students can relate their knowledge to the needs of the time, the more their success will come, he added.

Farhana Hanip congratulated the new graduates on their graduation and said, "Today is your day. The graduates of the Washington University of Science and Technology are the mirror of this university. Here the university and the students will work as a reflection of each other.

Students of different nationalities from different countries come to the university to study, in their presence, every classroom becomes the conference room of the United Nations, she added.

“And it is the diversity that creates real opportunities and possibilities,” said Farhana Hanip.

Speaking as a representative of the students, Josephine Mili Chung, who completed her Masters in Cyber Security said, "Having a full-time job, raising children, I was able to complete this degree because of the teaching methods of the university and their utmost care and importance to the students.

After completing an online cybersecurity course, Mili Chung is now working in the field.

Later, one by one, the students were given their graduation degree certificates. And finally, the students enjoyed the photo session and had fun with it.

Later in the day, guests attended the convocation dinner in the evening. At the dinner, held at a local hotel, the guests congratulated Abubokor Hanip for running the first full-fledged university in the United States as a Bangladeshi American.


Among the speakers were Rokeya Haider, former head of the Bengali department of Voice of America, Sarkar Kabiruddin, another year-old journalist of Voice of America, Abdul Alim, CEO of AABGM, Prof. Dr. Badrul Khan, expert in e-learning, Indian journalist Raghubir Goyal and others.

The speakers described this initiative of Abubokor Hanip as an act of moving mountains. They encouraged chancellor Hanip and praised his vision and mission.

Dr. Anis Rahman, President of Applied Research and Photonics, Dr. Faisal Quader, Chair, AABEA Central, Dr. Mohammad Hossain, Chairman, Prime University of Bangladesh, Dr. Jamal Uddin, Professor of Coppin State University, Kazi Zaman, CEO of Crickpoint, Saleh Ahmed, President of BAI, Turkish community leaders and entrepreneurs Dr. Yusuf Chetinkaya, Dr. Turgay Polat and others were present in the occasion.


This evening meal became a delightful with music and delicious food. Nafisa Nousheen, Anika Hossain and Anisa Hossain, new generation Bangladeshi-origin artists in the United States entertained the guests with their wonderful music.

In recent times, the university has been renamed from Iglobal University to Washington University of Science and Technology. Graduates all received their certificates from the Washington University of Science and Technology.

Established In 2008, this university Is currently run under the leadership of successful Bangladeshi-American entrepreneur In the United States. It is the first full-fledged university run by any Bangladeshi American in the United States. More than 600 students are currently studying in information technology, cyber security and MBA courses. Students from 121 countries of the world have either been certified or are currently studying at this university.
