Bangladesh's Hi-Tech Park sees great potential to go for partnership with the ‘Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST)’ in the USA. Technology-based knowledge transfer is the most necessary and useful step of this time, which can happen between Hi-Tech Park and WUST. There will be a big announcement of such a partnership very soon.
This was stated by the Managing Director of Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, Bikarna Kumar Ghosh. He was visiting the WUST (formerly IGlobal University) campus in Virginia on Wednesday (May 11) and interacting with its authorities.
The Chancellor of the University, Bangladeshi American IT entrepreneur Engr. Abubokor Hanip, the President of the University Dr. Hasan Karaburk, Director Prof. Dr. Mark Robinson, CFO Ms. Farhana Hanip were present on the occasion. The Exchange of Views was also attended by Mr. Humayun Kabir, Managing Director of RTV and Romania Food and Beverage (Bengal Group) from Bangladesh, RTV CEO Syed Ashiq Rahman, Bangladeshi businessman in the US, CEO of Cricketpoint Kazi Zaman, Minister Economics, Bangladesh Embassy in Washington D.C Mr. Mehedi Hasan among others.
In his speech, Bikarna Ghosh also said, "A Bangladeshi American running a full-fledged university in the United States on his own, it is a matter of great pride for our country. We want more such Abubokor Hanips in Bangladesh and that is why we need mutual co-operations."
Pointing out that the university's skill-based education system which is working to create an ecosystem between industry and academia, Bikarna Ghosh said that this is the area that needs to get the highest importance in the field of education now. In Bangladesh too, emphasis is being given to such practice-based education more and more.
He said the Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority wants to urge the Washington University of Science and Technology- WUST to take this education system to Bangladesh as well and for that they are ready to give the necessary land to establish the campus of this university in Bangladesh.
University Chancellor Abubokor Hanip welcomed the proposal, saying such an opportunity would be a big find for WUST. He said those coming to study in the university are prepared with education and skills suitable for the future. So that after completing the education, they can enter the advanced job market in the United States and across the world.
His big dream for the students graduating from this university is that some of them will one day hold the highest-level positions in Fortune One Hundred companies like Amazon, Google, Cisco, Facebook, Twitter and so on.
"The faculty members at the Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST) are both scholars and professional practitioners with four to thirty years of job experience in the relevant fields. There is no need to look back when students enter the world of work by learning from these professors."
At some point we will be able to make this announcement, when we can say that if someone finishes his or her studies at WUST, the student will get a good job for sure, then we will be able to announce 'No Job No Tuition', said a confident Abubokor Hanip.
Dr. Hassan Karaburk, President of the University, highlighted the university's education system and its commitment to its students and various aspects of the student-teacher relationship. He said the education system of WUST, formerly IGU, is unique and necessary for every student of this time.
"This is a vibrant university. It is career oriented and we teach students and give them the right knowledge and skill set through our partner sister institution PeopleNTech and prepare them for meaningful employment," Dr. Burk added.
Prof. Dr. Mark Robinson highlighted various aspects of the educational system and said that by identifying the needs of the students, teachers teach and prepare them.
We pay special attention to the students, we know them by their names and we can give them need based education, he added.
Md. Humayun Kabir in his speech praised the curriculum of WUST, its management system and teaching method. He also mentioned in his speech that the university is being run under the leadership of a Bangladeshi American which makes him proud.
Kazi Zaman, a prominent businessman from Virginia, said the same thing. "This university is a matter of pride for every Bangladeshi living in the USA" and he appreciated the unique effort of the university which enables fresh graduates to start their career at mid-level.
Mr. Mehedi Hasan, Minister Economics, the Bangladesh Embassy in Washington D.C in his speech lauded Mr. Abubokor Hanip for such an initiative and said that the endeavor has made him proud.
Farhana Hanip thanked everyone in her speech and sought everyone's cooperation in running the university.
Mahmood Menon, an adjunct faculty of Dhaka University and a journalist who is currently pursuing his further education in this university, spoke on the occasion. He said the university's educational system is so different that the students here can learn with joy. University Professors teach here with industry skills, which is why this method is much more effective. He also said that there is a need for widespread introduction of this education system in Bangladesh.
