Dr. Osman Siddique became a distinguished member of the Biden administration

In the United States, another achievement to boast about for Bangladeshis came on Friday, March 22nd. On this day, the White House announced that M. Osman Siddique, a Bangladeshi-born former diplomat, and educator, has been appointed as a member of the National Security Education Board. Leading this board as chairman is the United States Secretary of Defense. Its permanent members include the Secretary of State, Secretary of Education, Secretary of Homeland Security, Secretary of Energy, Secretary of Commerce, Director of National Intelligence, and the Chair of the National Committee on Humanity. President Joe Biden made this appointment. Along with Dr. Osman Siddique, six other high-profile individuals have been appointed as members of this prestigious board. However, their appointment is not a government job; it entails responsibilities of high advisory capacity. Upon receiving the appointment, Dr. Osman Siddique commented in a statement sent to NRBC TV, "I feel deeply honored that President Joe Biden has appointed me as a member of the highest council of such a prestigious organization." Dr. M. Osman Siddique is a former diplomat who is currently involved in American politics. In 1999, President Clinton appointed him as ambassador to the island nations of Fiji, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Nauru. During the crisis in Fiji in 2000, Dr. Osman played a special role in protecting democracy and facilitating the country's restoration. He was the first American Muslim diplomat to serve as a mission chief in another country. Osman Siddique came to the United States for higher education nearly fifty years ago. After obtaining an MBA degree from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University, he joined a Fortune 500 company. In a short span of time, he transformed into a successful entrepreneur and emerged as a successful businessman. He then became active in Democratic Party politics under Senator Ted Kennedy (D-MA). In 2011, President Barack Obama appointed Siddique as a trustee to the Board of Governors of the East West Center's in Honolulu, Hawaii. Currently, Dr. Siddique serves as a skillful advisor to several multinational organizations. Additionally, he works as a non-resident senior fellow on multiple boards including the Atlantic Council. Born in Kishoreganj, Bangladesh, Dr. Osman Siddique currently resides in the McLean area of Virginia in the United States. He is the younger brother of Dr. Osman Faruque, a former Minister of Education of Bangladesh. Their father, Dr. Osman Gani, was a renowned scientist in the subcontinent and served as the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University and the founding VC of Mymensingh Agricultural University.

WUST Announces Full Scholarships for Space Exploration Olympiad Participants

Abu Jakir : Washington University of Science and Technology has announced full scholarships for students participating in the Space Exploration Olympiad. The Chancellor and Chairman of the University, Engineer Abubokor Hanip, declared that a total of 10 students, including 3 from the ages of 6 to 14 in 9 groups and 1 best champion, will receive full scholarships.He came up with the announcement on Saturday (October 21), during the Crest and Certificate Award Ceremony for the Mission Controllers and Assistant Mission Controllers at the Karwan Bazar Vision 2021 Tower Software Technology Park Conference Room.Engineer Hanip stated, "If the students of the Bangladesh Innovation Forum want to enroll in this university for bachelor's and master's degrees, they will be directly awarded a 50% scholarship."Regarding the students' objectives, Hanip said, "There are many universities where only academic subjects are taught. But when it comes to working in the industry, skills are needed, experience is required. Numbers not, quality is our goal, WUST Chancellor Abubokor Hanip says at celebration for 1000 plus student enrollment

All at Washington University of Science and Technology, its high-ups, faculties and the staff members gathered in the hall-room at Virginia campus last week to celebrate a special achievement. It was an occasion to celebrate and thanking all for achieving the milestone of enrolling 1,000 new students in two years after the Chancellor Engineer Abubokor Hanip taking over the the university as its new owner.Established in 2008, the university is currently being run under the ownership of this successful Bangladeshi-American education entrepreneur. At the time of taking ownership of the university in 2021, there were only 314 students. But under Abubokor Hanip's management in two years the university has bagged a significant progress. International students from 121 countries of the world are studying in this university. The number surpassed 1,000 soon after the start of winter quarter classes. Terming the achievement as a milestone Mr. Hanip said all the faculties, administrators and support staff are to be credited for this. Admission of 1000 students in such a short period of time is a big achievement, no doubt. But we are not believing in numbers, our focus is on quality education and career development of the students, Abubokor Hanip added. Chancellor Abubokor Hanip took chancellorship of the university two years back, but its president Dr. Hasan Karaburk has been associated with this for a long time. Dr. Hasan was very happy with this success. It is a memorable moment, he said. Terming it as a team's success Dr. Hasan Karaburk urged all in the administration to hold it and figure out how to move forward. The director of the University's School of Business Professor Mark L. Robinson, two vice presidents Dr. Zefer Pirim and Dr. Shane Cho talked on the occasion. They shared their feelings on this happy moment and expressed their future thoughts. It is a result of team effort, they said in their speeches. University CFO Farhana Hanip said that the achievement belongs to all. And now everyone's goal is to keep it up and move forward. If we work together we can grow together, she said. Under the leadership of Engineer Abubokor Hanip, half a hundred skilled officers and employees of WUST are working hard with new educational methods and goals. They are now excited to have achieved such a milestone in a span of two years. The pledge to achieve newer goals is now in their voices. Later, a cake was cut to celebrate this success. Luncheon was also organized. Washington University of Science and Technology currently has 1250 students all together. Among them more than five hundred Bangladeshi students are there.

WUST lauded at Virginia State Senate, a memorable day for all, says Chancellor Abubokor Hanip

Washington University of Science and Technology, the only Bangladeshi-owned University in the United States, was recognized at Virginia's state senate assembly on Wednesday. Virginia's Fairfax State Senator John Chapman Peterson brought up the activities of the university to the senate general assembly.Praising the university, he said the university has been making the best contribution to technology and skill-based higher education. State senators from 40 districts of Virginia were present in the assembly. The Assembly, headed by Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earl Sears greeted Washington University of Science and Technology with big rounds of applause. A six-member delegation led by University Chancellor Engineer Abubokor Hanip and President Dr. Hasan Karaburk attended the meeting. Farhana Hanip, CFO of the university, Prof. Dr. Mark Robinson, Director of The Business School, Dr. Yuan Lee, Assistant Director, General Education and Center for Student Success and Nayeem Hasan, a student representative were present in the delegation. After the senator's presentation, Lieutenant Governor Winsome Earl Sears welcomed the university delegation and thanked them for their contribution to the spread of higher education in the United States and for creating workforce & hopes for the future. Established in 2008, the university’s ownership was changed in 2021 when Engineer Abubokor Hanip took it over. Since then, the university has been undergoing major changes in its teaching and management methods. Through which it moves forward on the path of rapid improvement. It became popular with the students. In 2021, Abubokor Hanip started this journey with 300 students and in the span of two years, the number of students has now increased to more than 1200 which is four times higher than under the previous management. Among the students more than 500 are from Bangladesh. The reasons for this success is the involvement of scholar cum practitioner teaching staffs, well-organized university management team, a very special teaching method of creating the replica of the workplace environment in the classroom settings and also the establishment of a center for student success. In addition to international students, US citizens and green card holders are now choosing this university as their place of study. Later, in a reaction, WUST Chancellor Engineer Abubokor Hanip said, "Every work is expected to be recognized. The name of Washington University of Science and Technology has come up in the State Assembly as recognition. This will provide new impetus to our way forward.” "When all the state senators and other guests were clapping for our university in the Assembly Hall I felt proud to be a part of it. The scene will be remembered for a long time.” He added. "It was a memorable day for the Washington University of Science and Technology in Virginia, USA," said Dr. Hasan Karabark, president of the university.
