All at Washington University of Science and Technology, its high-ups, faculties and the staff members gathered in the hall-room at Virginia campus last week to celebrate a special achievement. It was an occasion to celebrate and thanking all for achieving the milestone of enrolling 1,000 new students in two years after the Chancellor Engineer Abubokor Hanip taking over the the university as its new owner.
Established in 2008, the university is currently being run under the ownership of this successful Bangladeshi-American education entrepreneur. At the time of taking ownership of the university in 2021, there were only 314 students. But under Abubokor Hanip's management in two years the university has bagged a significant progress.
International students from 121 countries of the world are studying in this university. The number surpassed 1,000 soon after the start of winter quarter classes.
Terming the achievement as a milestone Mr. Hanip said all the faculties, administrators and support staff are to be credited for this.
Admission of 1000 students in such a short period of time is a big achievement, no doubt. But we are not believing in numbers, our focus is on quality education and career development of the students, Abubokor Hanip added.
Chancellor Abubokor Hanip took chancellorship of the university two years back, but its president Dr. Hasan Karaburk has been associated with this for a long time. Dr. Hasan was very happy with this success. It is a memorable moment, he said. Terming it as a team's success Dr. Hasan Karaburk urged all in the administration to hold it and figure out how to move forward.
The director of the University's School of Business Professor Mark L. Robinson, two vice presidents Dr. Zefer Pirim and Dr. Shane Cho talked on the occasion. They shared their feelings on this happy moment and expressed their future thoughts.
It is a result of team effort, they said in their speeches.
University CFO Farhana Hanip said that the achievement belongs to all. And now everyone's goal is to keep it up and move forward. If we work together we can grow together, she said.
Under the leadership of Engineer Abubokor Hanip, half a hundred skilled officers and employees of WUST are working hard with new educational methods and goals. They are now excited to have achieved such a milestone in a span of two years. The pledge to achieve newer goals is now in their voices.
Later, a cake was cut to celebrate this success. Luncheon was also organized.
Washington University of Science and Technology currently has 1250 students all together. Among them more than five hundred Bangladeshi students are there.
